"I'm currently in Florida, but my heart and my vision remain with the St. John Valley. I've drafted this piece to highlight why Van Buren is Maine's best-kept secret for the AI and data center boom."

Subject: Van Buren: Maine’s Next Great Tech Frontier
To the Editor,
As someone who keeps a close eye on the St. John Valley, I am struck by the incredible opportunity currently sitting in Van Buren. While the state grapples with high energy costs, Van Buren remains a rare exception with some of the most affordable electricity and water rates in New England, thanks to its connection to NB Power and its local utility district.
With the $4.1 billion biofuel project taking shape at nearby Loring, the infrastructure is already being laid for a massive industrial rebirth. Van Buren is perfectly positioned to complement this as a hub for green data centers. We have the "free cooling" of the Northern Maine winters, the duty-free benefits of an industrial empowerment zone, and a world-class fiber backbone already in the ground.
Beyond the numbers, there is the "VB" culture—a community of sweethearts who welcome innovation. Imagine tech workers trading city traffic for a winter commute on fat-tire e-bikes along our beautiful trail systems.
We often talk about the "limits" of rural Maine, but with the right focus on Van Buren, we can show the world that our future is truly limitless. It’s time for Maine’s tech leaders to look North.
Sincerely,
